I would like to thank all A∆K sisters who attended our Provincial Convention this past weekend, May 27 & 28, 2022, in Oakville Ontario. What a grand time we had together, after being apart for so long due to the pandemic! Our theme of A∆K Ontario “Buzzing With Opportunity by Beeing Amazing, Beeing Dedicated and Beeing Kind”could be seen everywhere from the bee hairbands of our Busy Bee convention planners, to the bee themed favours, to the “Bees Knees” cocktails and bee-yond:) It was wonderful for Ann Ainslie, North Central Region IVP, Kathleen Buligan IEB and Joyce Werner of Illinois Lambda to join our Ontario sisters.
On Friday afternoon attendees had the opportunity to visit such local attractions as the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Art Gallery of Burlington and Psi sister Kari’s of Ancaster dress shop. After a meeting of Presidents, a lively evening Meet & Greet was held where we enjoyed a “Sisters” slideshow. A thoughtful and serene Omega Service was held on Saturday morning through the exceptional skills of Ontario Chaplain Elizabeth Sills, Ontario Lambda. Our Opening Session celebrated the fact we were finally together by recognizing various years of service and our focus on kindness, followed by the excellent GROW Membership Presentation offered by Ann Ainslie and Mary Johnson. In the afternoon we held our Business Meeting, then Fraternal Education, with our own Ontario Miss Violets! An Altruism slideshow captured our contributions at the International level and Provincial level.
Proceeds from our fundraiser ticket sale for a gold and black enamel jewelry set and our gently used book sale were tallied and a presentation was made to Food4Kids, with a follow up cheque to Alzheimer’s of Ontario. Throughout the day we enjoyed several Canadian music videos highlighting our theme, as well as stretching opportunities with Debbie Parker, Ontario Sigma. The cocktail hour featured talented student harpists, followed by a delicious banquet.
During dessert, guest speaker Jane Enright, author of “Butter Side Up” and “Jane’s Jam” captivated the audience. Our Ontario Excellence In Education Award was presented to Diana Hernandez, Zeta and the Ontario Sister of Distinction Award was presented to Roberta Casabon, Zeta and Elaine Twigg, Rho. The evening ended with the installation of new officers and a presentation by new President Marg Nieradka. What a great weekend!!
